Our History
On March 15, 1979 the American Federation of Martial Arts was founded by Masters, Adolfo Ennever and Herman Hahn, at that time it involved only two schools, the Babylon Karate Center and the 1st USA Jujitsu Center with only 72 members. A year later 1980 AFMA was ten schools strong and over 400 members in New York and New Jersey. In 1981 we affiliated Panama with twenty eight schools and over 4000 members. In 1986 Puerto Rico ten schools and over 350 members, Saint Thomas two schools and over 40 members, Antigua two schools and 26 members. In 1988 we affiliated Colombia with 3 schools and 67 members. In 1991 we affiliated Canada with over twenty two schools and over 1500 members, and Mexico with six schools and over 150 members. Since 1991 we have affiliated Chile 1993, Germany 1993, Brazil 1994, Venezuela 1994, Hawaii 1996, India 2000 and South Africa 2001. At the present time we have an estimated over 29,000 membership strong Federation.
